About Us
Project Mission
To expand awareness and promote higher education to disadvantaged children in the Los Angeles community. Project MAC strives to foster friendship and rebuild the youth's trust in others, as well as inspire them to pursue their hopes and dreams.
Description
Project MAC aims to provide tutoring and mentoring to at risk youth with limited resources for exposure to higher education as well as offer art, recreation, and discussion as outlets of expression. We are currently working with A Community of Friends (ACOF), whose mission is to end homelessness by providing permanent housing for those transitioning from homelessness and/or with mental or physical disabilities. Through its program Project MAC strives to foster a safe and positive environment that is more conducive in instilling confidence to continue higher education.
Site Visits
For any given site visit our volunteers help to meet the needs of the children that have come in that day. The first hour is spent working on homework or studying for tests. For this we utilize the diverse knowledge of our volunteers to help the students learn better study habits and consequently earn better grades. The second hour of our site visit consists of engaging activities in arts and crafts, recreation, and discussions. We plan programs that will interest and prove to be useful for different age groups and have received positive feedback from both the children and the facilitators. Another component of Project MAC is quarterly field trips to educational and fun places around the Los Angeles area. This rewards the children for all their hard work and offers an opportunity for mentors and youth to interact in a different setting.
